Welcome to WEDGE! We're thrilled you want to get your hands dirty (literally) with us. Before you throw your first pot or sculpt your first masterpiece, please take a few minutes to read through these Terms and Conditions.

By booking a class, workshop, membership, or studio time with us, you agree to the terms below. We've tried to keep the legal jargon to a minimum, but a few important bits are, well, important.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By registering for a class, purchasing a membership, booking studio time, or otherwise using the facilities and services of WEDGE, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please don't clay around — kindly refrain from using our services.

If you are booking or registering on behalf of a minor (under 18), you represent that you are their parent or legal guardian and agree to these Terms on their behalf, including the liability waiver in Section 6.

2. Classes, Workshops & Studio Membership

2.1 Booking

Booking for classes and workshops is confirmed only upon full payment unless otherwise stated. Spots are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

2.2 Class Conduct

We ask that all students:

- Arrive on time (clay waits for no one, but we'll try to catch you up).

- Follow the instructor's guidance regarding equipment, tools, and studio safety.

- Treat staff, instructors, and fellow students with respect and kindness.

- Wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty (we did warn you).

We reserve the right to remove any individual from a class or the premises for disruptive, unsafe, or disrespectful behaviour, without refund.

2.3 Memberships

Memberships grant access to open studio hours as described in your specific membership plan. Membership fees are billed in advance and are non-transferable unless otherwise agreed in writing. Membership benefits, studio hours, and access rules may be updated from time to time; we'll do our best to give reasonable notice of material changes.

Membership hours do not carry from month to month.

3. Cancellations, Rescheduling & Refunds

We understand that life happens, but we also have a business to run.

Cancellations by You: Cancellations made more than 48 hours before a scheduled class are eligible for a full refund or credit toward a future class, at your choice. Cancellations made within 48 hours of the class start time are non-refundable but may be eligible for a one-time reschedule, subject to availability.

No-Shows: No-shows are treated as forfeited bookings with no refund or class credit unless in exceptional circumstances.

Cancellations by Us: If we cancel or reschedule a class due to low enrolment, instructor unavailability, or circumstances beyond our control, you will be offered a full refund or the option to transfer to another class.

Membership Cancellations: Memberships may be cancelled with 7 days' written notice prior to the next billing cycle. No partial refunds will be issued for the current billing period.

4. Payments & Pricing

All prices are subject to change without notice, though we won't change the price of a class or membership period you've already paid for. Payment is due at the time of booking unless otherwise arranged.

Gift cards and prepaid class packages are non-refundable but do not expire unless required by law or stated otherwise at time of purchase.

5. Studio Rules, Equipment & Materials

5.1 Use of Equipment

Pottery wheels, kilns, tools, and equipment are for the intended use of enrolled students and members only, under appropriate supervision or after proper induction. Please treat our equipment like it's your own, with care.

5.2 Clay, Glazes & Firing

- All work must be completed within the timeframe specified for your class or membership term. Unclaimed or unfinished pieces left at the Studio for more than 60 days after completion or after your class/membership ends may be donated, recycled, or discarded at our discretion.

- We use commercially prepared clay bodies and glazes selected for food safety and durability, where labelled as such. However, we cannot guarantee the outcome of any individual piece — pottery involves inherent unpredictability (cracking, warping, glaze imperfections, and the occasional kiln surprise are all part of the craft).

- We are not responsible for pieces damaged, cracked, or lost during the drying, trimming, glazing, or firing process. These things happen, and they happen to the best of us, it's character building.

5.3 Personal Belongings

Please don't bring anything to the Studio you'd be devastated to lose or get clay on. We are not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen personal property on the premises.

5.4 CCTV

At WEDGE we have CCTV covering our yard, foyer and main kiln room. This is in place to ensure the safety of our users and security of our buildings. If for any reason you ned to see the CCTV (lost items for example) we are happy to provide this to you.

6. Health, Safety & Liability Waiver

6.1 Assumption of Risk

Pottery-making involves inherent risks, including but not limited to: cuts, burns (kilns get hot — really hot), slips on wet floors, allergic reactions to clay or glaze materials, and strains from repetitive movement or equipment use. By participating in any class, workshop, or open studio session, you voluntarily assume all such risks.

6.2 Release of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release, waive, and discharge WEDGE Ceramic Workshop, its owners, employees, instructors, and agents from any and all liability, claims, or causes of action arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury that may occur while participating in Studio activities or while on Studio premises, except where such loss, damage, or injury is caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

6.3 Health Disclosures

Please inform your instructor of any relevant allergies (particularly to silica dust or specific glaze components), pregnancy, respiratory conditions, or physical limitations before class begins so we can help you participate safely.

6.4 Minors

Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian unless enrolled in a class specifically designated for unaccompanied minors, and a parent or guardian must agree to this waiver on their behalf. The minimum age for our general classes is 14.

7. Photography & Media

We may take photos or videos during classes and events for promotional use (social media, website, marketing materials). If you prefer not to be photographed, please let staff know before class begins, and we'll do our best to keep you out of frame. We will ask first of course…

8. Intellectual Property & Your Creations

You own the pottery you make (congratulations!). However, by attending a class or workshop, you grant WEDGE a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to photograph finished works for promotional or educational purposes, unless you request otherwise.

Instructional content, curricula, and studio branding remain the intellectual property of WEDGE and may not be reproduced or used commercially without written permission.

9. Code of Conduct & Right to Refuse Service

We're all about community, creativity, and good vibes. We reserve the right to refuse service or membership, or to remove someone from the premises, in cases of harassment, discrimination, intoxication, safety violations, or other conduct that disrupts the studio environment, at our sole discretion.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, WEDGE's total liability arising from any claim related to our services shall not exceed the amount paid by you for the specific class, workshop, or membership giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our services, legal requirements, or studio policies. The most current version will always be posted at www.wedgederby.co.uk or available on request. Continued use of our services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
